As the nation celebrates 100th birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to the former Prime Minister on the occasion on Saturday. “Tributes to former Prime Minister Smt. Indira Gandhi on her birth anniversary,” Modi said in a tweet.
Congress President Sonia Gandhi also paid a floral tribute to her mother-in-law Indira Gandhi on the latter’s birth anniversary. Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi was also present on the function. Sonia Gandhi will inaugurate a photography exhibition on the November 21, which will be organised as part of the anniversary celebrations at Swaraj Bhawan and Anand Bhawan in Allahabad.
“Remembering Indiraji: a warrior, a revolutionary, a woman of conviction, compassion and sacrifice. My grandmother, my friend, my ever guiding light,” Rahul Gandhi tweeted after paying floral tributes.
President Pranab Mukherjee will deliver the Indira Gandhi Centenary Lecture today, organised by the Indira Gandhi Centenary Commemoration Committee. He will also launch a website devoted to Indira Gandhi set up by the Indira Gandhi Memorial Trust.
Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu paid tribute to Indira on twitter. Former chief minister of Rajasthan Ashok Gehlot tweeted, “Paying homage to former PM Smt #IndiraGandhi ji on her Jayanti.She would always live in our hearts n inspire us to do our utmost for Nation.”
Indira Gandhi, born on 19 November 1917, served as Prime Minister from 1966 to 1977 and then again from 1980 until her assassination in 1984.
