Family moves SC seeking Rs 50-lakh compensation after man dies in bank queue
According to reports, 55 people have died standing in the queues
Family members of a senior citizen, who died standing in a bank queue, have moved the Supreme Court seeking Rs. 50-lakh compensation from Union Government.
Thousands are still lining up in front of banks to exchange the invalid currency with the new ones.
According to reports,70 people have died standing in the queues.
Most of the deceased are senior citizens, while there were cases of suicides also.
On November 8, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the demonetisation on Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes saying it would be a measure to curb black money and corruption.The directive drew flak across the country, for its implementation.
Parliament saw heated debates on the topic when agitating Opposition members demanded roll back of the decision and presence of PM Modi in the Houses. Both the Houses were adjourned on the fourth day of the Winter session.
