General Qamar Javed Bajwa has been appointed as the 16th Chief of Army Staff of Pakistan.
Pakistan Prime minister Nawaz Sharif has declared General Bajwa as army chief from the list of four. Others in contention for the post were Lt. General Ishfaq Nadeem Ahmed, Bahawalpur Corps Commander Lt General Javed Iqbal Ramday and Lt Gen Zubair Hayat.
Incumbent Army chief, General Raheel Sharif will hand over command to newly appointed General Bajwa on November 29.
General Bajwa has been serving at the general headquarters as Inspector General of Training and Evaluation. He has commanded the 10 Corps, the army’s largest wing, which is responsible for the area along the Line of Control.
General Bajwa has ample experience of handling issues in the northern areas of the country, which includes Kashmir.
