Hashim Mansoor, 7-year-old Kashmiri boy wins gold in Asian Karate Championship

Hashim Mansoor, a 7-year-old boy from Kashmir's Bandipora district has won a gold medal at the Asian Youth Karate Championships, held in New Delhi.

Hashim Mansoor, a 7-year-old boy from Kashmir’s Bandipora district has won a gold medal at the Asian Youth Karate Championships, held in New Delhi.

Hashim bagged the gold in the sub-junior category (below 25 kg) after defeating his Sri Lankan opponent in the final.

“I am very happy to win this medal. I had been practising for this since last one year, It was difficult, but I still won the fight,” Hashim told news agency ANI after his achievement.

As schools and educational institutions remained closed in the Valley, Hashim diligently practised Karate. His coach expressed happiness after the win, “It is a huge thing to win this Championship as there are not much resources for sports in Kashmir; Hashim faced a lot of hurdles to reach here.”

The Kashmiri kid represented India in the championship which was participated by 19 countries. Hashim is now qualified for the World Championship, to be held next year in September.

Earlier,an eight-year-old girl from the state, Tajamul Islam had bagged a gold medal at the World Kickboxing Championship.
