Amid the speculations that the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa would soon be discharged from hospital, AIADMK party on Sunday said that the AIADMK supremo has been shifted from the intensive critical care unit (ICCU) to the general ward of the Apollo Hospital in Chennai, adding that she would be returning to her Poes Garden residence soon.
AIADMK spokesperson C R Saraswathi, speaking to the news agency ANI, said that the party is ecstatic and described it as their ‘Diwali’ gift.
“Yesterday evening, honourable chief minister has been shifted from ICU to the normal ward. There are no words to express our happiness. All our prayers have been answered. Very soon she will be home,” she added.
Since she was admitted to the private hospital, this is the first time that that the AIDMK chief has been moved out of the ICU. She was admitted in the hospital on September 22 with complaints of fever and dehydration.
On Friday, Apollo Hospitals chairman Dr Prathap C Reddy had said that J Jayalalithaa has recovered fully but continues to be in the intensive critical care unit (ICCU) of Apollo Hospitals in Chennai as doctors want to keep her infection-free in view of her very low resistance.
He had said the Chief Minister could be “shifted out anytime it deems right”. “Though she can live beautifully without ventilator support, still we put her on and off the ventilator to ensure that her lungs won’t collapse,” he said.
“I can confidently say our efforts and people’s prayers have produced good results. She can leave hospital any time she wants. We keep her in hospital because her other systems needs to be prepped up,” he added.
