Kanpur train tragedy: Centre announces ex-gratia of Rs 3.5 lakh
The Center on Sunday announced an ex-gratia of Rs 3.5 lakh for the families of the deceased in Patna- Indore Express derailment incident. At least 96 were dead and more than 150 were injured in the accident.
Union Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu on Sunday also announced Rs 50,000 for those critically injured, and Rs 25,000 for those who sustained minor injuries in incident.
“Enhanced amount of ex-gratia compensation to the victims of this unfortunate accident – Rs 3.5 Lakh in case of death. Rs 50 thousand in case of grievous injury and Rs 25 thousand in case of simple injury. This is in addition to the compensation which will be available through Railway Claims Tribunal,” said Suresh Prabhu on Twitter.
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivrah Singh Chouhan also announced an ex-gratia compensation of Rs 2 lakh for the families of those killed and Rs 50,000 for those critically injured.

The Ministry of Railways also tweeted, “ADRM & CMS Jhansi reached site MoS @Manojsinhabjp w/ Rly Bd members ME ,MRS & GM one way to site,MR @sureshpprabhu personally monitoring.”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also expressed anguish over the loss of lives and the injured. “Anguished beyond words on the loss of lives due to the derailing of the Patna-Indore express. My thoughts are with the bereaved families,” Modi said in a tweet.
PM Modi said that Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu is personally monitoring the situation. “Prayers with those injured in the tragic train accident. I’ve spoken to @sureshpprabhu, who is personally monitoring the situation closely,” Modi said.
