In an embarrassment to the Siddaramaiah-led Congress Karnataka government, primary and secondary education minister Tanvir Sait was allegedly caught viewing pornographic content on his phone on Thursday during Tipu Jayanti celebrations, The Indian Express has reported.

Local channel NewsX9 ran a footage of the minister viewing pictures of  skimpily clad women while he was on stage during the celebrations that had been organised as a tribute to Tipu Sultan. Sait was the chief guest at the event.

Tanveer Sait told the media that he was looking at Tipu pictures on his phone when these pictures came up on a Whatsapp group, The News Minute reported.

The BJP has demanded the resignation of Sait. BJP leader KS Eshwarappa told ToI that Sait had no moral authority to continue as a minister and must resign with immediate effect.

BJP state president BS Yeddyurappa tweeted, “Karnataka’s Edu Minister Sh.Tanveer Sait should be sacked immediately who was caught on camera watching pictures which were allegedly porn.”

In February 2012, two BJP ministers Lakshman Savadi and CC Patil were caught watching pornographic clips inside the Karnataka assembly even as the session was on. The two ministers as well as J Krishna Palemar, who reportedly forwarded the obscene clip to them, resigned from their ministerial posts.
