Karnataka native arrested for raping Japanese tourist in Kovalam

The accused was arrested and a case was registered against him.

A 35 year old Japanese woman was raped, allegedly by a man from Karnataka at Kovalam, Kerala on Saturday. Teja (25)  who runs a handicraft shop at Kovalam was arrested based on the statement of the victim , police said.

The women had arrived in Kovalam on Friday. According to the police the woman befriended Teja at his shop and went out with him on Friday night.She was found injured and bleeding in her hotel room next morning and was rushed to the government SAT hospital by the hotel staff. As informed by the hospital authorities , police took a statement from woman and arrested Teja. A case was registered under section 376 (punishment for rape) of the Indian Penal code.
