Kejriwal calls for emergency meeting on Delhi Air pollution

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has called for an emergency cabinet meeting over capital city's rising air pollution. The meeting is scheduled to be on 12.30 pm today.

The move comes at a time when protesters including children and women are holding protests at Jantar Mantar against the administration's ineffectiveness in tackling the rising levels of pollution.

Reports show that pollution has hit an ever time high in Delhi.

Government data itself shows that the smog developed in the capital city was the worst in the last 17 years. The concentration of PM2.5, tiny particulate pollution that can clog lungs, averaged close to 700 micrograms per cubic meter. That is 17 times against the government norms and 700 times ahead of WHO standards.

Many schools across the city have been asked to shut down due to the sickening levels of pollutants in the air. Expert doctors have demanded people to stay inside during the worst time.
