Bhartiya Janata Party on Wednesday appointed actor and Lok Sabha MP from North-East Delhi Manoj Tiwari as the party’s Delhi unit chief, an official statement said.

Manoj Tiwari will replace Satish Upadhyay as Delhi BJP chief with immediate effect.  BJP MP Nityanand Rai has also been appointed as Bihar unit chief.

“I would like to thank PM Narendra Modi for showing trust on a new party worker like me. I will try to fulfil my responsibilities,”  Tiwari said in response to his appointment.

Manoj Tiwari, who is a leading Bhojpuri actor, has a huge following among the migrant-Bhojpuri speaking voters from Bihar and eastern Uttar Pradesh.

Nityanand Rai belong to Yadav community over which RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav has a stronghold. Rai’s appointment by BJP is seen as the party’s efforts to go beyond its traditional upper caste voter base and reach out to OBCs in the state. Earlier the Bihar unit of the BJP was headed by Mangal Pandey.
