Medical students torture, kill monkey at Christian Medical College in Tamil Nadu

Four students of the Christian Madras College (CMC), Vellore, Tamil Nadu allegedly tortured and killed a monkey and buried its body on the premises. The horrifying incident of animal cruelty came into light when some students of the college informed about the incident to a Mumbai-based animal activist who tipped off some people in Chennai.
An FIR has been filed against the four medicos and the college decided to suspend them.
The activists said that the female bonnet macaque had wandered into the hostel on November 19. The four medicos caught it with a blanket, tied its hands and then tortured it in front of other students. They beat it with sticks and belts, put a rod into its anus and killed it.
The general secretary of the hostel, when came to know about the incident, immediately suspended them and informed the college authorities.
When Meet Ashar, a Mumbai-based animal activist, was informed about the incident on November 21 he tipped off Dinesh Baba, Nishanth Nichu, Shravan Krishnan and Antony Rubin, animal rights activists in Chennai. The team immediately set out for Vellore and filed a complaint at the police station.
“We, along with the tahsildar, police, forest department officials, veterinarian from the animal husbandry department and village administrative officer, reached the CMC on November 22," said Antony Rubin, adding that the college administration and security were also present.
The carcass of the monkey was exhumed from behind the mess of the men's hostel. The monkey was around 12 months old. It had multiple fractures. Its hands were tied behind its back, a telephone cord tied around its neck and a sharp object was inserted into the anus.
In July this year, a video of two medical students throwing a dog from a rooftop in Chennai had gone viral and drew sharp criticism from animal lovers and activists. The two students were later arrested.
