NGT asks Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, R'sthan to submit report on crop burning
The panel also asked the Delhi government to stop all 10-year-old diesel vehicles from plying on roads in the National Capital Region
The National Green Tribunal on Friday summoned the environment secretaries of Delhi, Haryana, Punjab and Rajasthan, and asked Environment Secretaries of all the four states to submit a report on burning of agricultural residues and pollution control to the tribunal by Nov 8.
The panel also asked the Delhi government to stop all 10-year-old diesel vehicles from plying on roads in the National Capital Region.
Taking suo motu cognizance of the matter, the tribunal had on Thursday directed Delhi Chief Secretary K.K. Sharma to hold a meeting urgently with all the concerned authorities. The development came as Delhi’s air quality deteriorated to alarming levels and witnessed its worst smog situation in 17 years on Wednesday and Thursday.
NGT has also asked the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) and Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) to take immediate steps to control pollution.
Delhi's Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Tuesday had said the government would soon initiate measures to curb the rising pollution. However, the government did not specify any deadline for these measures.
