Not Ready for the Grand Alliance, If Akhilesh Won’t Be the Face of SP: Congress, JD(U) and RLD
Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav’s endeavour to build ‘Mahagathbandhan’, a large coalition, in UP will go astray since JD(U), Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) and Congress have shown doubts over their partnership in it if Akhilesh Yadav won’t be the face of SP.
There are reports that Rahul Gandhi has already made it clear that his party will join SP only if Akhilesh leads the election campaign. The Senior leadership of RLD confirmed that they also have taken the same stand on the grand alliance. They are also wary of joining the alliance if the family feud in the Samajwadi Party won’t be solved immediately.
“As far as we perceive, the squabble between Akhilesh and Shivpal is going to sustain. That will be unfortunate not only for a political party but also for the proposed grand alliance,” an RLD office-bearer said to TOI.
Bihar CM Nitish Kumar has a more ambitious plan about Mahagathbandhan in UP. He said it would be possible only if SP and its rival BSP join hands together to fight BJP. Nitish is also a little nervous over the grand alliance with SP remembering Mulayam’s last-moment withdrawal from the coalition before the Bihar assembly polls last year.
SP’s internal issues may confuse the Yadav and Muslim voters and weaken the chances of SP in coming to power. Many experts observe that this feud in SP will diminish the prospects of their partners as well in showing an impressive performance in the elections.
