West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee lambasted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s demonetisation drive on Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes and half-jokingly said that another word for Paytm now is “Pay PM”.

“Children these days say that the other word for Paytm is ‘PayPM’ “, Bengal CM said at an anti- demonetisation rally in Patna.

She was quipping on the claims by central government that more people started using the mobile wallet system Paytm following the currency ban of November 8. Trinamool Congress chief  was alleging that demonetisation is giving undue benefits to Paytm.

She also attacked Modi on grocery store chain Big Bazaar. Critics of the government said the store chain also has been unduly benefitted from the move due to their alleged connection with ruling BJP. Public bank State Bank of India has helped the company to set up facilities to withdraw the money.

“Big Bazar ka Bigg Boss hamare desh ka Pradhan mantri hogaya hai,” TMC chief said. (The Bigg Boss of Big Bazar has become the country’s Prime Minister.)

She also said the post-demonetisation situation – cash shortage is in its worst state – is worse than emergency.

“This is a financial emergency… this is an insult to women’s strength and their wealth,” the Bengal CM said.
