Pakistan’s Sartaj Aziz to visit India next month

Sartaj Aziz, a senior member of Pakistan's federal cabinet as the de-facto Minster for Foreign Affairs, said he will travel to India to attend Herat of Asia Conference.

Sartaj Aziz, a senior member of Pakistan’s federal cabinet as the de-facto Minster for Foreign Affairs, said he will travel to India to attend Herat of Asia Conference.

The visit is expected to defuse the tension between the two neighbours. Aziz, an adviser to Nawaz Sharif, told to state-run PTV channel, “It’s a good opportunity to defuse the tension.” He added that there is no meeting scheduled with Indian officials.

Sartaj Aziz’s visit to India would be the first key by a Pakistani official since Uri attack. The Ury attack killed 19 soldiers and New Delhi had blamed Pakistan-based militants.

The Heart of Asia Conference is focusing on Afghanistan. The conference will seek the ways to improve security and bring peace to Afghanistan.

“Heart of Asia is for Afghanistan and Afghanistan is our priority,” said Aziz.
