President Pranab Mukherjee, PM Narendra Modi Pay tributes to Jawaharlal Nehru
President Pranab Mukherjee and Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid rich tributes to Jawaharlal Nehru, the first prime minister of India, on his 127th anniversary.
“Tributes to Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru on his birth anniversary,” Prime Minister Narendra Modi said in a tweet.
Besides President Mukherjee, Vice President Hamid Ansari, former prime minister Manmohan Singh and Nehru’s great-grandson and Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi arrived at Shanti Vana, Nehru’s memorial on the banks of Yamuna, on Monday morning to pay floral tributes.
At the end of the ceremony, the dignitaries released tricolour balloons into the air. A group of students was also there and sang songs. Nehru’s birth anniversary is celebrated as Children’s Day and on this occasion, Union Minister Venkaiah Naidu tweeted his wishes to every child “a joyful bright future, full of opportunities to grow and learn”.
“Paying tribute to Pt Nehru. Today more than ever we remember those who truly gave their lives to this nation and its citizens,” Rahul Gandhi tweeted.
