Rajya Sabha adjourned over Demonetisation ruckus

Trinamool Congress and Samajwadi party leaders asked for PM Modi's presence and his reply for Opposition's questions

Rajya Sabha witnessed dramatic scenes on Thursday when Opposition members raised slogans and tried to rush towards well of House and against Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s move to demonetise Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes.

Trinamool Congress and Samajwadi party leaders asked for PM Modi’s presence and his reply for Opposition’s questions.

Speaker P J Kurien asked the leaders to go back to their seats when started shouting “We want Narendra Modi to go.” The House was adjourned till 11.30 am after the ruckus got worse.

The first day of Rajya Sabha saw a 7-hour long debate on note ban, during which the opposition slammed the government’s move saying it was “ill-conceived” and created economic anarchy in the country.

Centre refuted the allegations saying the demonetisation move was widely received by the common man and it is in the national interest. The government asked the Opposition to clarify their stand on corruption.

The Lok Sabha also saw high amount of exchanges over the currency ban where opposition severely criticised Modi’s silence.
