Arnab Goswami resigns from TimesNow
Aggressive news anchor and Editor-in-Chief of Times Now, Arnab Goswami has resigned from his position at Times Now in a move to start a new venture.
Arnab has announced his resignation at an editorial meeting where he declared his intention to start a venture of his own. He addressed the meeting through video chat from Mumbai.
A senior source from the Times of India said the TRPs had fallen sharply over the last six months. This was compounded by many guests turning away from appearing on the channel since they were very frequently interrupted. As a result, the channel was getting “low profile” guests.
Goswami with his highly aggressive and authoritarian style has changed the fate of Times Now, which was a runaway failure.
After Arnab Goswami took over, Times Now had beaten its rivals in weekly ratings in 2007 for the first time .
He has earned criticism for his pro-BJP and ultranationalistic editorial agenda even prompting some of his former colleagues to call him a disgrace to journalism.
Barkha Dutt, senior journalist and his former NDTV colleague had launched an attack against Arnab and the channel, for their alleged partisanship to BJP.
Meanwhile, Times Now channel was seen displaying “Arnab is back” indicating his return to widely seen news show “News Hour”. He was on leave for the last few days when the show was run by his colleagues.
Central government deciding to grant Y category security to Arnab created a huge uproar in social media last month. His hour long oratories during JNU sedition controversy was highly criticised having a slur of propaganda.
