Appreciated and loved for her zeal to help the public, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj had been reportedly admitted to AIIMS on November 7, and on Wednesday she informed via Twitter that she had suffered kidney failure and is on dialysis at the hospital.

In her tweet almost 10 days after being admitted, she said “Presently, I am on dialysis. I am undergoing tests for a Kidney transplant. Lord Krishna will bless.”

“Her condition is stable. Her history of chronic diabetes has affected her kidney functioning. She is on dialysis,” media reported quoting sources at AIIMS.

Reports said she is admitted at the cardio-neuro centre under the supervision of Balram Airan, chief of the Cardio Thoracic Centre. It was on last Tuesday when a doctor at AIIMS was quoted as saying that the minister “has diabetes and other medical problems” and she will go through “certain endocrinological tests”.

Within two hours, her tweet garnered around 3,800 retweets and  6,200 likes. Many well-wishers gave her best wishes to get well soon, and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, ex-Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Omar Abdullah were amongst those.

Her fan following came forward to support her, and some even offered their kidney to her saying they need her.

She has been suffering from diabetes for almost 20 years and was last admitted to AIIMS in April after she complained of chest congestion. She underwent treatment for pneumonia and other health issues then.
She has been lauded for her outreach on Twitter by helping those in distress, irrespective of their geographical location. Also, her recent speech at the United Nations General Assembly, where she blamed Pakistan for fanning the unrest in Kashmir and funding terrorism in India, received praise.
