Telangana villagers rename village after KCR’s daughter
Khanapur village in Telangana’s Nizamabad district will be called Kavithapuram now onwards. Khanapur gram panchayat has passed a resolution couple of days ago to rename their village after K.Kavitha, the daughter of TRS leader and CM of Telangana K Chandrasekhar Rao, as a ‘token of their reverence.’ ‘Kavitha, a member of parliament from Nizamabad constituency was of great help to the villagers who were displaced by the Sri Ram Sagar Project (SRSP) reservoir on Godavari River, says the Panchayat head.
“We are overwhelmed with her concern for us. So, we have decided to name our village as Kavithapuram,” said Khanapur sarpanch Mamatha Naresh. “There were 274 houses in the village, which was submerged under the SRSP waters. We have been rehabilitated in a new place, a few kilometres away from our original village. Our MP has taken initiative in allotting land to rebuild the village. We met Kavitha a couple of days ago and requested for construction of double-bedroom houses for all the 274 families,” she added.
However, the village will continue to be known as Khanapur in the revenue records till a notification is issued, said Rajender, Tehsildar of Armoor block under which the village comes.
