Two Maoists shot dead in Nilambur, Kerala
The encounter took place at Karulai forests near Padukka forest station in Nilambur, says Police.
Two Maoists including a woman were shot dead in Nilambur forests in Malappuram district in Kerala on Thursday. According to the police, the three were killed in an encounter with the Thunderbolt squad of Kerala police. The two have been identified as Kuppu Devaraj aka Kuppuswamy from Thelankana and Ajitha aka Kaveri from Andhra Pradesh. Earlier there were reports that three persons were killed, which the police clarified later. Police said that Devaraj was a top leader of the outfit, wanted by four states and holding a bounty of Rs 37 lakhs for his head.
The encounter took place at Karulai forests near Padukka forest station in Nilambur. A 60-member Thunderbolt squad of the police which is founded exclusively for countering the growing Maoist influence in the region entered the forest today morning to find out the Maoists who went into hiding. Top officials of the police force including the district SP have come to the spot. Complete details of the incident are not released yet.
