The Comandante of Cuban revolution Fidel Castro, 90 is no more. Cuban President and brother of Fidel, Raul on Saturday morning announced through the State Television that the leader was no more.
“The commander in chief of the Cuban revolution died at 22:29 hours this (Friday) evening,” the president said through the TV.

A long time expected death, due to his health state, was a shocker when the news came out to millions who are in the front of struggles.
After ceding power to his brother in 2008, Fidel wrote occasionally for the party paper, Granma and made occasional appearances- recently at the 2016 Communist party congress-otherwise kept a low profile.
In 1959, Guerrilla army of "bearded ones" under his leadership overthrew the dictatorship of Fulgencio Batista’s and replaced it with a communist rule. This put the country in a long diplomatic tussle with the United States which is still going on.

Castro was known for his celebrated camaraderie with the great revolutionary Ernesto Che Guevara. Che led the guerrillas along with Fidel and was made Health Minister in the communist government.
Raul who replaced the lawyer turned revolutionary said Fidel was irreplaceable. With charisma, intellect and political understanding, he embodied the revolution.
Fidel's greatest reforms were in the fields of Healthcare and public education which gave Cuba one of the best human develop indices. But his diplomatic indifferences with imperialist powers led to an embargo which put the country in economic crisis.

The legacy of the man who said "history will absolve me" leaves a division among his people. Old Cubans who experienced hardships under Batista rule mostly emphasise the accomplishments of the revolution. But the young who suffered due to economic sanctions have a more critical note.
