2017 assembly polls: Election Commission to announce schedule for five states soon

Amid political dramas across the country, especially in poll bound state, poll schedule of the assembly elections in the five states of UP, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Goa and Manipur may be reportedly announced in a week's time.

According to a report in The Tribune, Election Commission has also sent a letter to the Cabinet Secretary and the chief secretaries of poll-bound Punjab, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Goa and Manipur asking them to strictly adhere to the code of conduct.
“Immediate action should be taken for enforcement of the code of conduct after the announcement,” EC wrote.
TOI quoted its sources as saying that discussions with the Union home ministry on deployment of Central-para military forces are almost final, and that polling may get underway in February and stretch over 6 to 7 phases to end in first week of March.
It has been reported in Zee News that the poll body will declare dates for assembly polls after holding a crucial meeting on December 30.
It reported that Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections will be held in 7 phases, while polls in rest of the four states may take place in one phase.
