597 Tamilians died of grief after Jayalalithaa's demise, says AIADMK
AIADMK has announced relief of Rs 3 lakh each to the bereaved families, who hail from various parts of the state.
Due to unbearable pain over the demise of former chief minister J Jayalalithaa, 597 people have died so far in Tamil Nadu, the ruling AIADMK said on Monday.
AIADMK has released the latest list of 127 such deceased persons today, taking the total number to 597.
According to the party release, the people were “unable to bear” the death of Jayalalithaa, who passed away on 5 December in Chennai.
AIADMK has also announced relief of Rs 3 lakh each to the bereaved families, who hail from various parts of the state including Chennai, Tirunelveli, Dindigul, Madurai and Ramanathapuram districts.
The announcement came on the day newly-sworn in Tamil Nadu Chief Minister O Panneerselvam arrived in Delhi to request the Modi government to grant Bharat Ratna posthumously for Jayalalithaa. Construction of an ‘Amma’ bronze statue outside Parliament is also among the list of demands.
Panneerselvam is expected to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday and hand over a letter seeking Central aid for restoration works in areas affected by Cyclone Vardah.
