Former Indian Olympic Association (IOA) president Abhay Singh Chautala has responded over his appointment as life president of IOA, saying that he is ready to decline the post if the International Olympic Committee (IOC) tells him to do so.

"I will be pleased to sacrifice my position, once again in best interest of Indian sports, good governance and transparency," said Chautala. Chautala thanked the IOA for the role but has opted to decline the role amid controversy over his selection. He, alongside Kalmadi, is facing charges of corruption during their tenure as president of the IOA.

Chautala has also asked the IOA to consult the international body on the same. Hitting out at IOC president N Ramachandran for honouring Kalmadi and Chautala as life presidents at its AGM two days ago, Union Sports Minister Vijay Goel on Thursday said the IOA chief was equally responsible for taking up the item which was not on agenda of the meeting.

"I feel that IOA president Ramachandran is equally guilty. He brought this item (into the meeting) despite it not being on the agenda and passed it," Goel told reporters .

Goel informed that the sports ministry has now issued a show cause notice to the IOA and given it time till tomorrow to respond. "Our ministry has issued show cause notice to them yesterday and asked IOA to file their reply by December 30.

Chautala served as the president of the IOA from December 2012 to February 2014 when the sports body was suspended by the parent IOC for fielding charge-sheeted candidates at the elections. His election as IOA chief was annulled by the IOC.
