Bengaluru: Gym instructor stabs Flipkart delivery man to death for Rs.11,900 mobilephone
The police say he attacked Nanjundaswamy with an iron rod and a flower pot. When he fell unconscious, Varun allegedly slit his throat and watched him bleed out
The Bengaluru police have arrested a 22-year-old gym instructor in connection with the murder of a delivery man of e-commerce firm Flipkart. The police have identified the accused as Varun Kumar, resident of Mudalapalya.
According to the police, Varun Kumar had joined the gym only a week ago as an instructor and wanted a phone like his colleagues had.
However, he could not afford the smartphone worth Rs.11,900. Hence, he ordered for it on Flipkart using cash on delivery option and gave his gym as address.
When the delivery man Nanjundaswamy, 28, came with the consignment on December 9, Varun told him to wait at the Allahabad Bank parking lot in Vijaynagar.
The police say he attacked Nanjundaswamy with an iron rod and a flower pot. When he fell unconscious, Varun allegedly slit his throat and watched him bleed out.
For hours, he kept the body hidden in the gym, waiting for everyone on the floor to leave before he could find a better hiding place. He even told clients to leave, saying he was closing down the gym. Then he dragged the body to the basement cellar, an NDTV report quoted police officers as saying.
Varun allegedly kept the 12,000-rupee phone he had ordered, another more expensive phone, some cash and other goods from the delivery man's bag.
When Nanjundaswamy didn't return home for two days, his family reported him missing.
After tracking down the building where he made his last delivery, the police found the body in the cellar. The trail led to Varun, who had allegedly not opened the gym since the murder. He was arrested on Tuesday.
The police believe Varun had planned the murder as he had sneaked a kitchen knife into the gym a day before the phone delivery. They are trying to establish whether he had help.
