A senior motor vehicle inspector, who recently had cancelled the fitness certificates of 21 BMTC buses, has been shifted out of the transport department’s enforcement wing to the border check post in Attibele in Karnataka.
N Kariyappa had taken tough action against several private bus operators in the past also.
He was reportedly targeted for enforcing stringent action against BMTC buses ferrying students that violated Supreme Court safety norms.
On his last day as the special enforcement squad inspector on Wednesday, Kariyappa reportedly seized 10 private buses and booked 178 cases against other private vehicles for various violations in Jayanagar in Bengaluru.
Defending the action, senior transport official Gnanendra Kumar, joint commissioner transport (Bangalore Urban) said they could recall Kariyappa, whenever there is a special inspection or when there is shortage of staff.
