Caste may get upper hand in TN politics now, says Thirumavalavan
The absence of eminent personalities like MGR and Jayalalithaa open chances for religion and caste to take hold of Tamil Nadu politics," says Thol Thirumavalavan
Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi president and Dalit activist Thol Thirumavalavan has said religion and caste are likely to earn an upper hand in Tamil Nadu politics.
“The absence of eminent personalities like MGR and Jayalalithaa open chances for religion and caste to take hold of Tamil Nadu politics. All democratic parties should be vigilant of this milieu,” he said in an interview to Tamil newspaper Malai Malar recently.
"The BJP-led Central government has recognised it as a seemly time to build a strong platform in Tamil Nadu. Union Minister Venkaiah Naidu’s attitude when Jayalalithaa died and his presence in Chennai for a couple of days were not so innocent," said Thirumavalavan.
When asked about Sasikala’s entry as AIADMK general secretary, he said it was an internal affair of their party. He added that Dalits should be given priority in the ministry.
