Cyclone Vardah landfall on AP likely on Monday
Nellore, Kadapa and Chittoor districts of AP and some districts of Tamil Nadu would be affected by the cyclone.
Cyclonic storm 'Vardah' is expected to make landfall on the AP coast between Nellore and Machilipatnam on Monday afternoon.
According to weathermen, it is a slow moving system and currently is tracking west-north-westwards from the Bay of Bengal at a speed of 7 kmph.
It is likely to get strengthened during the next 24 hours and move further closer to the Andhra coast in west-northwest direction.
The system has now reached its peak and is most likely to sustain its strength up to Sunday evening.
Thereafter, gradual weakening is expected as the system will start moving in unfavourable conditions. The system is expected to make a landfall over Andhra Pradesh coast between Nellore and Machilipatnam during the afternoon or evening hours of Monday.
Vardah is the Arabic and Urdu word for “Rose”, a name suggested by Pakistan in the comprehensive nomenclature list for cyclones in the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal.
