Dalbir Kaur, sister of Sarabjit Singh, killed in a Pakistan jail in 2013, joined BJP on Monday.

Ms Kaur became close to BJP even in 2005 when she was going through a lot of stress to get her brother out of jail, and reports of her joining the party have been doing the rounds since.

"She joined the party in the presence of BJP MLA and Punjab Minister Surjit Jyani at a conference organised by the party's Kisan Morcha here," Punjab BJP Kisan Morcha general secretary Gurwinder Singh said in Fazilka.

Ms Kaur confirmed the news of her joining when asked by reporters.

Sarabjit Singh died following an attack from inmates of a Lahore prison in April 2013. Mr Singh was convicted for terrorism and espionage by a Pakistani court and sentenced to death in 1991.

In 2008, the government stayed his execution for an indefinite period.

Bollywood movie "Sarabjit" was made on struggles of Sarabjit Singh and Dalbir Kaur's life starring Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Randeep Hooda in the lead. The actors recently shared a picture with Ms Kaur which went viral in Social media.
