Aamir beats demonetisation: Dangal sweeps box office with Rs 29.78 cr on day 1

Far ahead of the expectation, Aamir Khan's latest flick "Dangal", which was released on Friday, set the box office on fire collecting almost Rs. 30 crore on the opening day.

Bollywood trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweet that it may cross Rs 100 crore on the first three day of its release.

"#Dangal wrestles demonetisation... Sets the BO on fire... Ends the lull phase... Fri ₹ 29.78 cr [incl ₹ 59 lacs from Tamil and Telugu]," Taran Adarsh said in a tweet.

Earlier this week, Aamir Khan had said he is "always stressed before a release" and claimed to have hidden in a store room on the premises of Yash Raj Studios to battle nervousness. Aamir also confessed to the press that he had begun smoking again. "It's driving me crazy," he had said.

"My Family saw #Dangal today evening and thought it was a much better film than #Sultan. Love u personally Aamir but hate u professionally !," Bollywood actor Salman Khan tweeted.

The film is based on the life of Haryanvi wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat, who trained his daughters - Geeta and Babita - in wrestling. The Phogat sisters won India's first medals in female wrestling at the 2010 Commonwealth Games.

The biographical sports drama film is directed by Nitesh Tiwari. It stars Aamir Khan as Mahavir Singh Phogat, who taught wrestling to his daughters Geeta Phogat and Babita Kumari.

The music for Dangal was composed by Pritam, while the lyrics were written by Amitabh Bhattacharya. Kripa Shankar Bishnoi, a coach with the Indian women's wrestling team, trained Aamir Khan and the entire crew for the wrestling sequences.
