Dangal not to release in Pakistan, say distributors
The film distributor's spokesperson issued a statement and confirmed that "Dangal" will not be screening in Pakistan
Bollywood star Aamir Khan's upcoming film "Dangal" will not be released in Pakistan, thus contradicting some reports which said the biopic will have a theatrical screening in the neighbouring country.
Cinemas in Pakistan started screening Indian films on Monday, after two months of suspension of screening by the cinema owners when tensions in India-Pak relations gone worse following the Uri attack.
According to Deccan Herald, theatre owners across Pakistan have suffered about Rs 150 million loss and some 100 employees lost their jobs since the non-screening of Indian films.
There were reports saying Aamir's sports drama would also be screened in Pakistan. However, the film distributor's spokesperson issued a statement and confirmed that "Dangal" will not be screening in Pakistan and "any news reports to the contrary are false."
The film revolves around the lives of wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat and his daughters Geeta and Babita Phogat. Aamir stars in the role of Phogat while Sakshi Tanwar, Fatima Sana Shaikh, Sanya Malhotra play others.
Nitesh Tiwari directed film is scheduled to release in India on December 23.
