KL Rahul missed his double century by just one run( 199, in 311 balls ) and added a partnership of  165 runs with Karun Nair (71) after the lunch session to help India reach 391.  At the end of the 3rd day, India now trais by only 86 runs and is ready to give a strong challenge to the visiting team.

India began the third day of the last Test well, as openers Rahul and Parthiv Patel (who replaced the injured Murali Vijay) demolished the English bowlers and put up first wicket partnership of 150 runs. Parthiv made his career-best, 71 runs before being dismissed by Moieen Ali.

But, Cheteshwar Pujara lost his cool and a loose shot from him gave England the second wicket, India was 181 for 2, before Rahul began displaying amazing superbly to lead India to safely.

He scored his century and received the kudos from a jubilant Chennai crowd, who turned out in large numbers at the Chinnaswami stadium to enjoy a Sunday.
But, the crowd watched in disbelief as the in-form Captain Virat Kohli was chaply dismissed by Stuart Broad for just 15.

Rahul’s Karnataka teammate Karun Nair soon joined him, and the duo batted carefully and slowly not to take much risks, and put up a crucial 161-run stand for the fourth wicket.  Nair  is now batting at 71, after Rahul's departure with Vijay (17).
