Ahem! AIADMK wants Nobel Peace Prize and Magsaysay Award for Jayalalithaa
Eager partyfolk have crossed the many, many walls separating respect and sycophancy with this mindless resolution.
If the Nobel Prize jury surprised many in 2016 by awarding the Literature Nobel to troubadour Bob Dylan, it has reason to be, well, shocked when it gets to hear this: the AIADMK wants the Nobel Peace Prize for its recently deceased leader J. Jayalalithaa.
Not just the Nobel, the AIADMK general body meeting held on Thursday passed a resolution to "make arrangements" for the Nobel Peace Prize to be awarded to Jayalalithaa. The AIADMK rank and file also want the Philippines-based Ramon Magsaysay Foundation to give her the Magsaysay for her philanthropic activities, which undoubtedly, may be many.

One may say with tongue firmly in cheek that the philanthropist in her led to the setting up of Amma canteens where very affordable food was made available to the poor without any loss of quality. Her critics also point to the proliferation of liquor shops run by Tasmac in the state as proof of her philanthropy.
Unfortunately for the AIADMK and its eager apparatchiks, the Nobel Foundation has since 1974 stipulated that the prize cannot be awarded posthumously, unless death has occurred after the announcement of the prize.
So, there you have it. No Nobel, but that doesn't stop the party from asking for an Oscar, since she was a remarkable leading lady in some 140 films, for their Dear Leader. Oscars have been awarded posthumously many times over. Aiyyo Amma!
