ISL 2016 final: Kerala Blasters to revenge, Atletico de Kolkata for 2014 repeat

The winners of Indian Super League 2016 will be decided today when Kerala Blasters and Atletico de Kolkata face each other once again in the finals.

ISL 2016 final: Kerala Blasters to revenge, Atletico de Kolkata for 2014 repeat

On December 20, 2014, in the final of inaugural Indian Super League, a 94th minute goal by Atletico de Kolkata’s Mohammad Rafique smashed Kerala’s hopes to win the title.

It was heartbreak for Kerala who played outstandingly well in the tournament.

But, when Kerala Blasters step into the Kochi’s Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium today to battle with Atletico de Kolkata again in final, things are totally different from 2014.

The Canadian forward Iain Hume, star of Kerala Blasters in 2014, is playing on the other side, while Mohammed Rafique, who pushed away Kerala from the title in the inaugural tournament, is with the Blasters now.

Atletico de Kolkata came into the final after a 3-2 and 0-0 draw against Mumbai City FC in two legs of their semi-final, while  Kerala Blasters entered final with 3-0 on penalties over Delhi Dynamos in the second leg of the semi-final and 1-0 win in first leg.

When Iain Hume and Helder Postiga will lead the ATK from front, they will be backed by an army led by Borja Fernandez.

Kerala Blasters have CK Vineeth and Kervens Belfort in attack, while Hengbart, Aaron Hughes and Sandesh Jhinghan set up an unbroken defence.
