Jagdish Singh Khehar to be appointed new Chief Justice

Khehar will be the 44th CJI and his name was recommended by the current CJI T S Thakur. Justice Khehar is currently the senior-most judge of the Supreme Court and will be taking the oath next year on January 4.

Jagdish Singh Khehar will be appointed as new Chief Justice of India by the Government. Khehar will be the 44th CJI and his name was recommended by the current CJI T S Thakur. Justice Khehar is currently the the senior-most judge of the Supreme Court and will be taking the oath next year on January 4.




According to The Economic Times, Jagdish Singh who played a major role in scrapping the controversial NJAC Act when he was heading the five-judge constitution bench in the Supreme Court.


Quoting sources in the government, Economic Times reported that President Pranab Mukherjee has cleared Jagdish's name and a new notification in this regard will be issued soon.
