An AIADMK cadre Nelagandan from Cuddalore district Gandhi Nagar died on Sunday night after seeing the news of Jayalalithaa's health on the television.

So far 26 people have reportedly died of shock after learning about the deteriorating health and later the demise of former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, media reports said.

According to a The New Indian Express report, Chinnapillai (63) of Veeramalai, Manickam (70) of Chinna Karadiyur and C Paapathiyammal (65) of Vilangamudi fainted and died on watching TV news in Krishnagiri district of the south India state.


Selvabaskaran (28) of Naraalsandhampatti complained of chest pain after watching news about the health of Jaya and died in hospital.

Nagaraj (62) of Bargur, M Kaliyammal (67) of Panakamutlu and Krishnan (35), a former ward member of Orappam panchayat, suffered cardiac arrest and died.

The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa commonly known as “Amma” died after she suffered a cardiac arrest, Apollo Hospital announced on Monday midnight. She was 68.

After the report was confirmed Local TV news channels from Tamil Nadu earlier aired news stating CM Jayalalithaa was dead, but hospital had denied all reports.

AIADMK workers and supporters threw stones at police and media after a Tamil TV channel said she had passed away before the official announcement. The irate workers generally made a mess of Greams Lane in which Apollo is situated. The AIADMK party headquarters had the flag at half-mast.

Apollo administration had also rubbished all news reports stating the CM of Tamil Nadu is no more.

Balasubramanian (55) of Karungalipatti in Vellore, who was a security guard in a private dairy in Uthangarai, fainted, when he he was rushed to Uthangarai GH, doctors declared him brought dead.

In Salem, two AIADMK cadre died in a span of 24 hours. Kullammal (60) collapsed on hearing the unofficial news of Jayalalithaa’s death. P Muthu (61) from Thappakuttai swooned to death while watching the post-death events on TV.

On Tuesday, three AIADMK cadre died of shock in Erode. The report said AIADMK ward 13 secretary MGR Dasan (48), a casual labourer from Madavakadu, swooned to death. He was with the party for three decades. In another incident, Ezhumathur panchayat party secretary Kadirvel (47), also a rice trader, died in sleep. Kadirvel was in the party since 1990.

AIADMK cadre Chinnasamy (60) of Ward 15 of Nasiyanur town panchayat died due to shock, after hearing news that the former CM is no more.

In Tirupur district, Malleeswaran (70) of Savakkaattupalayam, also a functionary of the party’s Avinashi North block, died of shock.

In Nagapattinam, V Raman (60), a fisherman from Sevabharathi Tsunami Colony, collapsed in his home. He was rushed to Nagapattinam GH, where he was declared dead. At Andarkaadu near Vedaranyam, V Somu (63), a member of AIADMK and a carpenter, suffered cardiac arrest while watching TV.

In Siruthalaikaadu, fisherman V Saminathan (62) died of  shock. At Vellikidangu, V Chandra (48) collapsed watching the funeral on TV. At Mayiladuthurai, B Sivaprakasam (62) from Kumaran Nagar and Ashokan (60) from Ulunthukuppai died after watching TV.

A Chockalingampillai (50) of Tirunageswaram in Kumbakonam and Amirthalingam (53), a farmer of Alathur in Tiruvarur, also died while watching news.

In Dindigul district, AIADMK cadre K Subramani of Kumarapalayam and Chinnakalai died of shock.
In Kanniyakumari district, M Hasan Kan alias Podi Kan (65) of Seempilivilai died after suffering a cardiac arrest.
