The leader of the India Makkal Kalvi Munnetra Kazhagam said Bharat Ratna should be given to Jayalalithaa for her initiatives for women empowerment
India Makkal Kalvi Munnetra Kazhagam leader T Devanathan Yadav has said the nation's highest civilian award Bharat Ratna should be given to former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa for her service to the uplift of women. He also wrote a request in this regard to President Pranab Mukherjee and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
In his request, he wrote: "The demise of ‘Amma’ has put Tamil people into extreme sadness, especially women. Each one of them consider it as a death in the family. It is because of the care Amma had been giving to women. Jayalalithaa had launched many programmes for women in Tamil Nadu like Tottil Kuzhanthai Thittam, Thalikku Thangam Thittam, Vilayilla sanitary napkin thittam etc. Jaya was working hard for the progress of women. Jayalalithaa should be awarded with Bharat Ratna to respect the initiatives she had taken for the empowerment of women in Tamil Nadu."
