Jayalalithaa: The third Tamil Nadu CM to die in office

Jayalalithaa was the third Tamil Nadu Chief Minister to die while in power. The first one was CN Annadurai, the founder of Dravida Munnetra Kazhakam (DMK) and the second was MG Ramachandran who founded All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK).

Jayalalithaa was the third Tamil Nadu Chief Minister to die while in power. The first was CN Annadurai, the founder of Dravida Munnetra Kazhakam (DMK). Anna was the first Dravidian party member to become Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. He died of cancer on 3rd February 1969.

The second CM to die in office was MG Ramachandran (MGR) who was an actor turned politician. He started his political life with DMK, but after Annadurai’s death he left the party to form his own All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) party. He died on 24th December 1987.

After the demise of MGR, J Jayalalithaa took over the charge of AIADMK and elected as the CM of Tamil Nadu for five times. She was hospitalised in September 2016 and died due to cardiac arrest in 5th December 2016.
