Kerala Minister: Trupti Desai won’t be allowed to enter Sabarimala temple

A day after women rights activist  and Bhumata Brigade leader Trupti Desai has said she will lead 100 women activists to Sabarimala in mid-January to assert the demand that women of all ages be allowed to enter the Ayyappa temple there, Kerala Devaswom Minister Kadakampally Surendran on Sunday said the rules were applicable for everybody and she would not be allowed to enter the temple.

He said the issue of allowing women of a certain age to enter the temple dedicated to Ayyappa, a Brahmachari (celibate) deity, was under the consideration of the Supreme Court and till the time the apex court pronounces its verdict on it, the temple would follow its age-old traditions.

Trupti Desai had earlier led the campaign to allow women’s entry to the inner shrine of Haji Ali Dargah in Maharashtra.
