Maoists torch 35 trucks of a mining company in Gadchiroli, Maharashtra
About 400 armed Maoists attacked the premises of a local mining firm and torched 35 trucks and three earthmovers on Friday night in Gadchiroli district.
Maoists struck again in Eastern Maharashtra and torched 45 trucks of a mining company on Friday night in Gadchiroli district. NDTV reported that about 400 armed Maoists attacked the premises of a local mining firm and torched 35 trucks and three earthmovers.
There also reports that some of the workers were held hostages by the attackers for 3-4 hours. No arrests are made so far, admitted police. The total loss to transporters in the incident is reported to be over many crores said owners, who claimed over 85 trucks were torched.
The police added that they are cautious to approach the area, fearing ambush from Maoists.
NDTV said that local people put up a stiff resistance to the mining for many years in the Surjagarh area and three officials of Lloyds Metals and Energy Ltd, which was working on the project were killed earlier by Maoists.
