Modi Babu, why are there still restrictions on cash withdrawal? : Mamata Banerjee

West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Saturday has launched yet another oral attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi asking why there were still restrictions on withdrawal even after the 50-day deadline was over.

Mamata Banerjee reminded Modi that public are not beggars of his government.

Mamata said, “Modi Babu, public are not beggars of your Government. Why are there still restrictions on cash withdrawal? 50 days are now over. How can you take away the rights of citizens to withdraw their own hard-earned money? Governments may come into power but they just cannot snatch people’s economic rights.”

Banerjee’s anger came after the RBI refused to remove the weekly withdrawal limit from banks and ATMs and only marginally increased the daily withdrawal limit from ATMs to Rs 4,500.

“On a review of the position, the daily limit of withdrawal from ATMs has been increased (within the overall weekly limits specified) with effect from January 1, 2017, from the existing Rs 2,500 to Rs 4,500 per day per card,” the central bank said in a notification.

Following demonetisation of old Rs 500/1000 notes on November 9, limits had been imposed on withdrawal of cash from banks as well as ATMs.
