Modiji, it is a funny Whatsapp video published two years back, not after note ban
The video, shot in Hyderabads Hitech City, shows a beggar brings out a swipe machine when a woman driver says she does not have change.
A Whatsapp video which was cited by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday to cllaim even beggars are using swipe machines is a joke published two years ago.
Addressing a BJP Parivarthan rally in UP, Modi said the video is proof of how easily Indians are shifting to digital transactions.
“I don’t know how far it is true but there is a video going viral on Whatsapp of a beggar being told by a man that though he wanted to help, he does not have change,” Modi said.
“The beggar asks him not to worry and takes out a swipe machine and asks for his debit card,” he added.
For the crowd who have gathered there to listen Modi, it was entertaining and they laughed without thinking the misuse of facts.
However, it is later noted that the video which is going viral on Whatsapp was uploaded two years ago, in January 2014, by a YouTube channel called Numerographic.
