Mumbai Police team went to arrest BJP leader’s son attacked in Udaipur

A police team from Mumbai that had come to Udaipur to arrest a rape case accused, who is a son of local BJP leader, was attacked on Friday morning.

A team of Dadar police station in Mumbai had come in search of Kamlesh Menaria, the son of local BJP leader Lalit Menaria, who was wanted in a rape case there.

When the plain-clothed  cops arrested the accused and were on their way to report at the local police station Kamlesh's father Lalit Menaria and other family members arrived there and hurled abuses and entered into a brawl with the police team. Huge crowd gathered at the spot and community men came out in their support.

Some members of the mob reportedly also tried to run over cops' motorbikes with a car.  A sub-inspector from the Mumbai team sustained minor injuries on his hand in the incident.

The verbal spat turned ugly with the involvement of some party workers who later marched and gheraoed the police station. Additional forces were called in to disperse the crowd.

Four men including the accused's father Lalit and cousins Manish, Nitesh and Mukesh were taken into custody for scuffling with the cops.

"The family members scuffled with the cops and tried to free the accused from their custody. Four persons have been detained and a case will be lodged against them under relevant sections,” Bhagwat Singh Hingar, DySP told Times of India.
