Narrow escape for 40 students as bus catches fire near Bengaluru

Forty students of BEL School, Jalahalli, in Bengaluru had a miraculous escape after a Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) bus in which they were travelling to Mysuru on a school excursion suddenly caught fire on the highway near Ramanagara in Karnataka on Saturday.

Over 300 students were travelling in six buses, one of which suddenly caught fire due to a technical snag.

As soon as the driver sensed trouble, he alerted the passengers, who then alighted from the bus. A TV news report said the bus burst into flames minutes after it was vacated by everyone.

All the students were safely transported in the other buses that were part of the convoy.

Electrical short-circuit is suspected to have been the reason behind the fire.

The traffic flow between Bengaluru and Mysuru was disrupted for two hours till the fire and emergency service personnel rushed to the spot and put out the fire.
