National Anthem: CPM's FB post claims Pinarayi Vijayan tells cops to lift sedition charges
But, there is not confirmation from the CM office or CMs Facebook page yet on the issue
The CPM on Tuesday posted on its Facebook page that Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has instructed the police to withdraw sedition charges against anyone on the national anthem issue.
But, there is not confirmation from the CM office or CM’s Facebook page yet on the issue.
Malayalam novelist and theatre artist Kamal C Chavara was taken into custody on Sunday by Nadakkavu police for allegedly insulting the national anthem.
“He has been charged under Section 124 (A) of IPC (sedition). He will soon be handed over to Karunagapalli Police,” said Prithviraj, Kozhikode north assistant commissioner of police two days ago.
The arrest was based on a case lodged against Kamal following a complaint by the Yuva Morcha, the youth wing of BJP, in which the organisaiton alleged that one of Kamal’s recent Facebook post was in the tone of insulting the national anthem.
The incident provoked the CPM leadership and senior leader Prakash Karat invited Kerala CM’s attention into the matter. Senior CPM leaders VS Achuthanandan and Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, too, criticised the act.
Yet, according to the CM office there was no such instruction has been given by the CM.
