Tamil Nadu: Father beats teenaged girl to death for opposing marriage
Aiswarya, a plus one student was brutally beaten by her parents and died on the way to hospital.
A 17-year-old girl was beaten to death by her father for opposing to a marriage arranged to her in Namakkal, Tamil Nadu, recently.
Aiswarya (17), daughter of Thangaraj and Rajammal, was a Plus-One student in a private school in Trichy.
Her parents had fixed her marriage and told her to come home from hostel, but Aiswarya opposed to the idea.
Later, Childline workers talked to Aiswarya and took her to the Child Welfare Committee on 14th December.
The next day, Aiswarya’s parents were called to the Child Welfare Committee office and asked them to give a written statement that the marriage will be cancelled. Aiswarya was sent back home with her parents.
But, soon after reaching home, her parents are said to have threatened her to marry, after which Thangaraj brutally tortured his daughter. Aiswarya fell unconscious and was taken to Namakkal hospital, but she died on the way on Saturday. Her body was immediately cremated the same day.
District Child Welfare Committee head Sathish Kumar said, “Aiswarya’s parents have agreed in a written statement that the marriage would not be conducted on 15th December. Aiswarya also had agreed to go home with parents. Later we came to know about her death and we are investigating the issue with village administrators.”
