Opposition leaders meet President over Parliament logjam, Rajya Sabha adjourned sine die
The delegation led by Congress President Sonia Gandhi, vice President Rahul Gandhi and former PM Manmohan Singh also submitted a memorandum to the President and sought his intervention on the issue
The Opposition leaders on Friday met President Pranab Mukherjee at Rashtrapati Bhavan and briefed him about the demonetisation hardships faced by the common people across the country.
The delegation led by Congress President Sonia Gandhi, vice President Rahul Gandhi and former PM Manmohan Singh also submitted a memorandum to the President and sought his intervention on the issue.
The delegation met media after the meeting and blamed the government for the washout of the winter session of Parliament and alleged that the arrogance of the government was behind the logjam over the issue of note ban.
Ahead of the last day of Parliament’s winter session, Rahul Gandhi-led delegation met Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the issue of loan waiver for farmers along with other leaders and submitted a memorandum regarding the same.
The meeting came a day after Rahul Gandhi claimed to have evidence of PM Narendra Modi’s personal corruption. Rahul told his party colleagues on Wednesday that the evidence was “bulletproof”. Rahul had also said he was being prevented from speaking in Parliament.
Earlier in the day, the protests by Opposition members continued in Parliament's both Houses demanding PM Modi's words on the note ban issue. Rajya Sabha adjourned sine die at 11:20 am as the Opposition members continued their sloganeering.
Reports suggest that the 2016 winter session has been the second least productive one in the history of Parliament.
