Now, you can pay on tolls via Paytm
For collection of toll through Paytm, distinct QR codes have been displayed on all the 22 booths of Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway.
As the toll charges began again from Friday midnight, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has taken a slew of measures including collection of fee through “Point of Sale” system, Paytm and mobile application “Highway Saathi” to facilitate smooth flow of traffic.
According to reports, NHAI Project Director Ashok Sharma said an adequate number of POS systems had been installed at the plaza. For collection of toll through Paytm, distinct QR codes have been displayed on all the 22 booths of Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway. People can also pay through mobile application “Highway Saathi”, which provides for payment against a single trip as well as a monthly discount pass. Besides, additional marshals have been deployed at the plaza to manage traffic.
Sharma told Times of India that despite all the measures to manage traffic, law and order issues could not be ruled out in the initial stages and a Duty Magistrate had been appointed by the Gurugram administration to deal with the same.
In Pune, NHAI and Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) are encouraging cashless transactions at toll plazas. The two agencies also plan to provide coupons if Rs 2,000 note is offered for paying toll.
M Chandrashekhar, NHAI regional officer, told TOI that credit and debit card swipe machines had been mandatory in the sixteen toll booths in the central region.
"These machines are available at ten of the sixteen plazas and remaining will available by Friday night or Saturday. We have also asked the toll collection companies to accept payment through Paytm but this has not been made mandatory," he said.
