Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan denied security in Bhopal, CPM leader calls it differences between cultures

The CPI-M polit bureau has slammed the Madhya Pradesh BJP government after Bhopal police did not allow Kerala Chief Minister and party's leader Pinarayi Vijayan to attend a meeting on Saturday.

Party termed the action as anti-democratic in a statement.

"Pinarayi Vijayan had been invited to a reception hosted by various Malayali organisations in Bhopal on December 10. However, as he was leaving for the meeting, he was advised by police officials not to proceed as some RSS elements were expected to demonstrate outside," the CPIM said in the statement.

The party accused the Shivraj Singh Chouhan government was toeing the line of RSS.

"This incident shows how the Madhya Pradesh government acts at the diktat of the RSS. It is also a telling commentary on the state of the law and order machinery which cannot protect a Chief Minister of another state in its own state capital," the statement read.

Later, the Madhya Pradesh government apologised to the visiting chief minister. Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan spoke to Vijayan when the incident was brought to his notice.

The state DGP visited Kerala CM and apologised to him.

Madhya Pradesh Police explained that CM Vijayan was not debarred from attending the function. Minding the tense situation prevalent in the region, Vijayan was not advised to go there. But the final call was Kerala CM's, said police.

Vijayan has decided not to attend the function by going against the security advice.

Meanwhile, the incident stirred an uproar across the country, many lashing out at the police action as "undemocratic". Kerala CM himself expressed his desperation over the issue.

Kerala CM himself expressed his desperation over the issue in Facebook. He pointed out many examples OF BJP leaders visiting Kerala and the state giving complete security to them.

CM Vijayan added the incident was borne out of the "differences in cultures".
